Professor Kassim joined PSI in 2007 and began his term as Head of School in 2010. He is a Co-investigator at the ESRC Centre for Competition Policy at UEA where he became Political Science Mentor in 2005. Hussein taught previously at Birkbeck, University of London (where he was head of School 2006-2007), the University of Nottingham and in the University of Oxford at New College, Balliol College and Worcester College.  He read PPE at New College, Oxford, before studying for an MPhil and a DPhil in Politics at Nuffield College, Oxford. He has held visiting positions at Arena, University of Oslo, Columbia University, New York University, the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies at Harvard University, and the Institut d'Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris. He is is a member of the Transformation and Sustainability of European Political Order (Eurotrans) at ARENA, University of Oslo, and of the Advisory Board of the Observatoire des Institutions Européennes at the Centre d'Etudes Européennes, Sciences Po Paris, was a founder of the London EU Group, and has been a Visiting Professor at the School of Politics and Sociology at Birkbeck, University of London since January 2008. His research interests lie in EU institutions, the relationship between the EU and the member states, especially France and the UK, and EU policy and administration. A recipient of grants from the British Academy, the ESRC and the Nuffield Foundation, he is currently working on projects on the European Commission, EU coordination, the national coordination of EU policy in the new member states, and aspects of EU competition policy, including the ECN, state aid, national competition authorities and the institutionalisation of DG IV. He was programme organizer of the ECPR Fifth-Pan European Conference in Porto (2010) and a scientific expert serving on a jury for the LABEX call at the Agence National de Recherche in France (2010).
